Scripture Mastery - Alma 17:10-11

This scripture mastery comes from the chapter we've been studying for the past two weeks.

Read scripture in context:

The sons of Mosiah did not even know if it were possible to be successful in the mission they had undertaken. “And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.”

It was in these circumstances the Lord did visit them with his Spirit.

Scripture to Memorize:

And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted. And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls. Alma 17:10-11

Questions to Discuss:

Why did the sons of Mosiah need comfort? What did the Lord do to comfort them? How were they visited? What were the sons of Mosiah asked to do? Why is it necessary to be patient in long-suffering and afflictions? What was the promise of the Lord? Why did this promise comfort them? Why can we have faith in the promises of the Lord?

Marking the Scripture:

  • Underline the action required by the sons of Mosiah in one color.
  • Underline the promise of the Lord in another color.

Scrapbook Copy of Scripture:

After the children memorize the verse, they can put this colored copy in their Book of Mormon scrapbook. The sheep and pool of water are there to help them remember this scripture is found in the same chapter where Ammon protects King Lamoni's sheep at the Waters of Sebus.

If they want to memorize it for life, here is a chart to keep track of their progress. You can use this colored copy or use the simple copy posted at the end of the Memorize For Life  post.

Here is a simpler version if you only want to memorize one verse.
