Scripture Mastery – Alma 32:28

Read scripture in context:

Alma and Amulek have success among the Zoramites who are poor. He teaches them they don't need a synagogue to worship the Lord and teaches them how faith is developed.

Scripture to Memorize:

Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me. Alma 32:28

To illuminate with divine knowledge, or a knowledge of the truth.

Questions to Discuss:

Why do prophets often use the things found in nature to describe the things of the spirit? Why must the Word be planted in my heart? Why must the soil or the heart be soft in order to receive the Word? Where else in the soul could the Word be planted? What is unbelief? How do I cast the Word out by my unbelief? How do I resist the Spirit of the Lord? Why do I resist the Spirit of the Lord? What does it feel like when the Word swells within my breast? How is the soul enlarged? Is this joy or love that is felt in my heart? How does the Word enlighten my understanding? Is this pure intelligence that comes from the Holy Ghost? When something is delicious, do I want more of it? Do I hunger and thirst after righteousness because it is delicious? How does Alma use the physical senses to help me understand the workings of the Spirit of God?
